Strong Family Units are Essential

Families are being attacked left and right. There are so many differing opinions that are tossed around as truth. Like for instance in the apa report on the differences between a two parent (father and mother) homes, and same sex couples that was used in the court case about legalizing same sex marriages. The arguments within that report are not correct due to the nature of the study. They didn’t have reputable sources, and the studies they did/used were not statistically sound. They did not have random sampling, and there was bias in the samples. This report stated that there was not a statistical difference between children behavior and upbringing (to paraphrase) between a traditional two parent (mother and father) family, and a same sex couple. However, there is a large difference. They didn’t actually make the studies comparing two parent homes and same sex homes. They compared same sex homes and single mother homes. They took some of the wealthiest and highest educated same sex couples (that had adopted children) and compared it to low income, less educated single moms that had children. Then they said that there was not a statistical difference between the two types of households. Therefore, if we take the time to think about what they are saying, there is not a statistical difference between same sex couples homes, and a single moms home. That would then lead to the conclusion that there is a significant difference between the actual two parent (mother and father) home and a same sex couple home. We know from previous studies that children raised by a single mom tend to have a harder time.

Families are struggling badly. There are increased divorce rates, cohabitation, same sex marriages, and step families. "Marriage is ordained between a man and a woman" and there isn't any variations or exceptions to that rule according to The Family: A Proclamation to the World. When children do not have a father (or mother) figure, then they are typically worse off and are more likely to do drugs, have criminal offenses, and many other things. Children are also “entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity” according to The Family: A Proclamation to the World. Fathers are supposed to “preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families”. Mothers on the other hand are in charge of nurturing their children. Both the father and mother work together as equal partners to raise the family. Creating successful marriages and families can be hard to do, but we are taught in The Family: A Proclamation to the World, that  “Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.”

"The family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children" as is stated in The Family: A Proclamation to the World. When the family is attacked, or becomes weak, then nations fall, and calamities occur. We have seen in many instances when the family fails, then nations fall. We are seeing that today. Families are being torn apart left and right with media, political opinions, and communities straying away from the typical family setting. Families however, need to be the focus of our time and effort. Without strong family units, the world will fall apart and become more chaotic than it already is. We have begun seeing this already, and families will continue to be attacked more, and will continue to fall apart. We need to do our part to create strong family units.
