Unity Within Marriage

Unity in marriage is essential. There can be extreme stress when one there is not unity in marriages. To increase the ability to be one in marriage there are several things that should be considered. Spencer W. Kimball has taught four principles that should be followed to create unity. The four principles are as follows: choose a partner who is close to perfection in the things that matter most, be unselfish, continue growing your love for your spouse, and keep the commandments. When these four principles are followed, then unity is more likely to be achieved.  No one is perfect, and expecting your partner to be perfect is the recipe for disaster. However, looking for someone who is close to perfection in the things that matter most to you will provide the unity and strength that you will need in marriage. To find the person that is close to perfect in the things that matter most to you means that you have to know what matters most to you. Those things could be characteristics or a...

Family Roles

God has opinions on families and on how families should be run. God has divinely designed families in a way that will give the whole family unit everything that they need. He has told us that fathers are to preside and provide the necessities of life. Presiding over the family doesn’t mean that he is the boss, but that he looks after, guides, and is responsible for the outcome of his family. The necessities of life include food, shelter, knowledge, and security (physical and emotional) to name a few. Mothers are responsible to nurture and raise children.  There are other roles that are present within families that God has not dictated. There are typically at least one peacemaker and a clown or tension reliever as well as a parental figure. Roles tend to change when family members leave the home. For example, in my family there are eight of us kids. Seven of us are girls, and we have one brother. It was strange when my older siblings would leave to go to college or serve a fu...

Strong Family Units are Essential

Families are being attacked left and right. There are so many differing opinions that are tossed around as truth. Like for instance in the apa report on the differences between a two parent (father and mother) homes, and same sex couples that was used in the court case about legalizing same sex marriages. The arguments within that report are not correct due to the nature of the study. They didn’t have reputable sources, and the studies they did/used were not statistically sound. They did not have random sampling, and there was bias in the samples. This report stated that there was not a statistical difference between children behavior and upbringing (to paraphrase) between a traditional two parent (mother and father) family, and a same sex couple. However, there is a large difference. They didn’t actually make the studies comparing two parent homes and same sex homes. They compared same sex homes and single mother homes. They took some of the wealthiest and highest educated same sex co...
